A Message from S.T.O.P. - Stop Tobacco @ Orchard Park!
March 25th is Kick Butts Day! Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up and take action against Big Tobacco at more than 2,000 events from coast to coast. Today, Stop Tobacco at Orchard Park is planning a big event regarding the Smoke Free Ontario Act and the legislation prohibiting smoking or having lighted tobacco in a motor vehicle while a person under 16 years old is present. This event will take place on HWY 8 between Spartan and Dewitt in Stoney Creek at two times: one in the morning between 7:30am - 8:30am, and again in the afternoon between 2:30pm - 3:30pm. Stop Tobacco at Orchard Park is a youth oriented advocacy group that is made up of students at Orchard Park Secondary School in Stoney Creek, ON. Since 2004, S.T.O.P. has been working towards educating their fellow students and the community of tobacco related issues (personal health and the environment), and more politically oriented issues such as the influence of "big tobacco" companies and legal issues such as the Smoke Free Ontario Act. Please join us as we do our part to advocate for a Smoke Free Ontario. This project is sponsored as part of Ontario’s Student Voice program, SpeakUp!
This video was produced by S.T.O.P., Stop Tobacco @ Orchard Park, a youth driven teen advocacy group dedicated to spreading awareness of issues relating to tobacco use and the power of the 'Big Tobacco' companies. The inspiration behind this video was the "Declare Yourself" YouTube video that used reverse psychology to promote the importance of voting and being heard. In like fashion, the S.T.O.P. "Smoke!" video hopes to show people that the use of tobacco and supporting 'Big Tobacco' companies just doesn't make sense. Think about it!
